Command & Conquer™: Generals Deluxe Edition App Reviews

This game worked great for a long time under Yosemite. Not a whole lot of complaints. Now, the game doesnt work at all with El Capitan and Aspyr doesnt give a S#*T about it. Meanwhile, they are continuing to sell the game on the app store and making money off of a product that does not work. Either we should all get our money back, or they should fix the bug. I chose not to upgrade to El Capitan because of the issue. But guess what? My game doesnt work anymore either and im running Yosemite. Aspyr come on!.. What a horrible way to treat customers. I know numerous people who have had emails and inquiries go ignored by Aspyr. C&C is a great game. But until you see these reviews start saying that everything is fixed, you better not buy this game or your just throwing money away. I hope they can fix this problem so that the C&C fanbase can expand. C&C 5 Stars Aspyr 0 Stars

Bought this game burt it won’t load my I Mac

Game crashes all the time while midplay can never finish a game, multiplayer is a joke could never connect with friends and if so ill take 10 mins to connect and midplay on that will kick you off as well. overall it blows i love the game but mac and aspyer seem not to care to fix these issues. save your money buy a pc and play it on there

This was a great game until I updated to El Capitan. It no longer works and Its taking Aspyr forever to update the app. They should give us our money back if they have no intention of supporting the app.

I couldn’t get my screen to be anything but up on every single character, no ability to see the battle field. And now it no longer works period, won’t even open.

This is $20 on steam for all Command and Conquer games bundled into that price for pc, however this is the only version for Mac. I bought this and was surprised to see that this version actually looks better than windows version. The game has zero issues on El Capitan and looks great. I have not had any issues at all with this game. Would buy again.

This could be a real classic game and be a lot of fun - however for whatever reason the publisher decided to not adjust the zoom to modern display resolutions and therefore it is way too close to play efficiently.

It’s C&C Generals, the game you know and love, but on your Mac. Game play is just what I remember on my old PC, many years ago. At least on my old late 2008 Macbook Pro (C2D 2.53 w/ 9600M GT) that I didn’t bother updating from Yosemite. On my mid 2014 Macbook Pro (2.2 i7) w/ El Capitan, just like most others, the game has major problems. I was generally getting an immediate crash - wouldn’t even get to the splash screen. Occasonally it would flash a splash screen and then crash. But after a little bit of trial and error, the problem appears related to Game Center. So long as I am signed out, (Game Center -> Account -> Sign Out), I’ve not had any crashes. Doesn’t bother me because I don’t care about multiplayer games nor participating in the Game Center stuff. I’ve played for several hours now on El Capitan, big 6+ player maps w/ large battles, graphics maxxed out - everything running beautifully. No crashes. Asypr still needs to fix this, but this little workaround appears to work for me.

Update: I still consider this game unplayable with a Magic Trackpad and with the view so incredibly zoomed in. Guess I’ll have to resort to playing the game through Origin on our Windows computer. Original Review: I’ve loved playing this game since it was originally released over 10 years ago. It’s the same game, but I foolishly bought it on March 15, three days after it was released. The biggest problem, and it makes it unplayable for me, is the fact that the zoom is way too tight. Imagine zooming in about half-way or so as in other versions, but not being able to zoom out any further. You can’t control the game efficiently if you are accustomed to the true version of the game. I would imagine this can’t be a hard fix, but for now we shall see if a future update corrects the problem. I sincerely hope the game is corrected and other titles, C&C 3 - Tiberium Wars in particular, are re-released for the newer OSX platforms. As popular as these games have been, it would be a shame to leave this version as-is.

Installed the most recent update and when I go to launch it says the file, "“Command & Conquer™: Generals Deluxe Edition” is damaged and can’t be opened. Delete “Command & Conquer™: Generals Deluxe Edition” and download it again from the App Store.” How do re-download it from the App Store when the App Store only allows me to “Open?"

Retina Macbook Pro 15’ late 2013 with OS X 10.11.1. The game crashes on start-up, right after the introductory video. I want my money back.

This RTS combines diverse units, great storylines, and large arenas for skirmish mode in a great game. I enjoy this game just as much as I enjoyed Empire at War, but I wish that the zoom feature was fixed so that I could zoom out over a large area. My only complaint is that I can’t find Red Alert 3 as well.

practically unplayable in its current state, this crowning entry in the Command&Conquer franchise will sit unused on the hard drive waiting for the day that it can be played with the same field of view of its original release on the PC.

Game crashes after El Capitan. Update comes six weeks later. Says it fixes “minor bugs,” whatever the hell. Game still crashes after update. We can send a man to the moon, eradicate smallpox, defeat the Nazis AND the Commies. But we can’t make C&C Generals playable.

Game was great up until the last update. Now it won’t start at all. After about 2-3 minutes after clicking on the icon I get “Command & Conquer™: Generals Deluxe Edition” is damaged and can’t be opened. I figured something must have happened with the update. I uninstalled the game and redownloaded it from the AppStore. Now with a new installation it still wont start. Same message. Save your money until this gets fixed. Its amazing other reviewers have the same issue, yet totally missed by Aspyr QA. Where is the Aspyr QA Team? Do they have QA team?

i love this game, played when i was younger. When i downloaded it i didnt care if multiplayer worked and it was fine. the there are zoom problems like others mentioned but other than that everything seemed the same as the old pc version. After i upgraded to elcapitan and updated hoping for fixes i cant even launch the game sucessfuly now. I got to play once since i updated. Ive uninstalled and redownloaded/installed. i have game center off and signed out. ect. Im disappointed its not fixed yet (thats why i only gave it 2 stars). my other mac runs it fine most the time. it still runs yosemite however the gamecenter issue still exsits but hey atleast i can open it and play on that one.

Plenty of zoom issues. If you wanting to play C&C like the old days, don’t buy this. Very dissapointing.

This game does not work with OS X El Capitan. I wasted $20. The game opens and crashes within a minute. They say they have a work around…..it does not work. Buyer beware….you have been warned.

Game doesnt even work, anytime I click on the app it just crashes. Dont waste your money until they fix it!

I love this game. Owned it when it first came out, and re-purchased it to play again today. I do not have the issues others are reporting on my MBP with most up to date version and OS.
